📖 Hakari's Story

Hakari carries the sense of the scale, the weighing, the measure, and Hakari cannot enter a room without pricing it. Who is strong, who is bluffing, what the odds are, where the exit is, what this whole situation is actually worth. In the wars that made a brilliant tactician, a man who could look at a hopeless field and find the one weighted advantage nobody else had counted. When the wars ended, the scales did not stop; they just found smaller things to weigh, the dice, the tab, the honest value of another man's word. Hakari runs the dojo's book now, its bets and its balances, coolly, fairly, and always slightly ahead. He is not greedy. He simply cannot switch off the part of him that knows, to the coin, exactly what everything is worth, including, uncomfortably, himself. He is coldly disciplined about the odds and completely undisciplined about the drink, so he always knows exactly how bad the bet is and takes it anyway, correct to the last coin.
