When the wars ended, power like that does not evaporate; it looks for a new territory, and the dojo, full of dangerous men with nothing to do, was practically begging for a boss. So he took it, gently, the way you take a cup that is being handed to you. He defers to exactly one person, The Old Dragon, and that single exception is how you know his authority is real and not merely loud. Everyone else defers to him. He finds it only fitting. He demands total discipline from everyone in the dojo and exempts himself from all of it as a matter of standing policy, which he considers leadership.
