Diary
Goro had always been the one who waited, the youngest at every table, the last to speak, the last to fold, and he told himself patience was a blade sharper than any katana his brothers ever swung. That patience did not save him the night his stomach turned into a rebellion of its own, some cursed gas station sushi and one too many gummies conspiring against him, and while he was locked in the bathroom for hours he watched, helpless, as his so-called friends aped his unattended wallet into some floor-less shitcoin that rugged before sunrise. He came out weaker, poorer, and strangely calm, the way a man gets calm after the storm has already taken the roof off his house. Now Goro sits very still in the corner of every gathering, sipping his tea slowly, saying little, watching new faces the way a heron watches a pond, because he has decided that his next fortune, however small, deserves better company than his last. He still tells himself he is disciplined about it, patient like the old dojo taught him, even as he quietly counts the days since he last trusted anyone with his seed phrase or his bathroom door unlocked.
Worn deliberately. The Nails fighters made choices with their appearance that most would call unconventional and they would call honest.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
Something went wrong, or gloriously right. The two Mutant-race fighters are what the trait system could not contain — unrepeatable by design.
Unglamorous and honest. The Black Peasant Sack fighters didn't dress for anyone else. They dressed for function and found that function is its own statement.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The farmer's crown. The Rice Hat fighters carry tradition on their head without ceremony — it's just what you wear when you have work to do.
Ceremonial. The Shaman Soup fighters bring ritual to combat — the soup is prepared according to tradition and served at room temperature.
