Ikari's vein throbs like a war drum with no war left to beat for, a katana-arm gone soft, aimed now only at the steam rising off a bowl of noodles. They say anger is a stone thrown into a wasp's nest, and once he was that stone, hurled through a hundred battles, but the wasps are all dead now and the nest is just this noodle house where he first lit up and, against every promise his ancestors ever made about discipline, became a good man. He remembers the exact bite of that weed, remembers laughing for the first time since the wars ended, remembers thinking peace was a taste and it tasted like scallions and shame. Now he sits gripping his chopsticks so hard they crack, furious at the version of himself that softened, furious at the version of himself missing that softness, raging at a heaven that let him become gentle in the one place he never asked to be. He tries, every single day, to be disciplined about not caring what could have been, and every single day he fails so loudly the whole noodle house goes quiet.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
'Ikari' means anger — and here it's not a description, it's the whole man. He doesn't perform rage; he simply is it, structured, purposeful, and permanent.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
Ceremonial. The Shaman Soup fighters bring ritual to combat — the soup is prepared according to tradition and served at room temperature.
