They say Assassin Fuzen once moved through the halls of Edo palace like a debt collector for silence itself, blade sheathed, patience sharpened past any edge steel could hold. Then came the wager, a stupid thing born of pride, an argument with enemy Yakuza over whose lineage deserved the last word, and Fuzen, ever the professional, forgot that some contracts should never be signed with your mouth. He lost. Of course he lost, arguing is not a killing art, and the palace floor that once echoed with his footsteps now only echoes in memory while he counts chips under lantern smoke in some backstreet den that smells of weed and spilled sake. He tells himself discipline is patience, and patience is the long game, and someday he will collect on that old bet, but the house always wins, and Fuzen, still sharp, still quiet, still menacing, has become the house.
A paper earring from the Dojo itself. Fragile. Replaceable. The fighters who wear them understand that what looks disposable can last forever.
