Diary
Drooling Azuma once carried his faith the way a monk carries a bowl, careful, sacred, never spilled, but the second he caught Rin's eye across the lacquered halls of the Edo palace, the whole vow went sliding off the tray like cheap sake. He flirted the way he does everything, loud, greedy, both hands in the jar, treating an ancient code of restraint like an all-you-can-eat buffet he'd already cleaned out twice. Now, gut roaring with shame and also just roaring in general, he has declared he will commit seppuku at dawn, though he has already pushed the ceremony back three times for snacks, a nap, and one last look at Rin from a respectful, horny distance. His attendants keep sharpening the blade and he keeps eyeing it the way he eyes a floor price he swears he'll finally buy, all big talk, zero follow-through, appetite eating the discipline alive before the discipline even gets a bite. In the end he'll probably just apologize to the ancestors, order more rice wine, and call it seppuku of the ego, which, honestly, might be the only kind he was ever built for.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Broad shade, broad vision. The Wide Kasa Fisherman fighters cover more ground with their hat than most cover with their plans.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
