Diary
Up at Mount Koriyoka the monks kept a strict schedule of prayer, rice, and silence, and Drooling Azuma kept none of it, snoring through sutras with drool pooling on borrowed tatami like a man who once swung a blade with discipline and now swings only at buffet lines. Between naps he wandered the pigpen out back and lost his whole degenerate heart to a fat, unimpressed sow he named after his old katana, convinced this was destiny and not just hunger wearing a costume. The priests sighed, the pig ignored him, and Azuma declared it the greatest ape of his life, no vesting schedule, no rug, just pure floor-is-love conviction. He tried, briefly, to fast and meditate like the old samurai code demanded, made it four hours before inhaling three bowls of rice and half a jug of sake meant for the shrine. Lying there bloated under temple stars, he wonders loudly about the future, about whether a pig can love a man back, and whether discipline is just another meal he'll eventually eat and regret.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Left the order. Didn't stop fighting. The Dejen Apostate fighters broke from whatever school trained them and found that the training stayed anyway.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Named for the legendary fighter. The Red Heihachi fighters carry that name's weight in every match and find it light.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
