Diary
In the red light district of some forgotten province, Drooling Azuma stood swaying between a noodle stall and a paper lantern, mouth full of skewered chicken, hurling insults at a passing samurai like he was flinging chum into shark water. "You call that a topknot, dawg? I've seen better discipline on a degenerate ape jpeg," he bellowed, spit and gravy flying, while somewhere deep in his ruined brain the master plan assembled itself out of sake fumes and pure appetite. He used to be trained for war, drilled to want nothing but victory, and now the only campaign he wages is against every all-you-can-eat buffet and low-liquidity floor price in the realm. The samurai walked on, unbothered, which only made Azuma louder, prouder, and more thoroughly unhinged, howling his master plan to the rooftops like it was gospel instead of gibberish. He swears tomorrow he starts training again, sword drills at dawn, but tomorrow smells like grilled eel and feels like one more round, so the discipline waits, forever hungry, forever ignored.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Golden cone hat of the sea. The Golden Kasa Fisherman fighters came from somewhere patient and arrived with that patience intact.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
