Diary
Once Azuma's arm was a blade-arm, disciplined in every strike he'd been taught by masters who are now just ghosts and unpaid invoices, but these days it's mostly a shoveling-arm, built for tuna belly and gyoza and whatever's frying nearest the flame. At the fish market he was mid-brag to Ikari, mouth full of dreams bigger than his stomach, gesturing so wildly about the whale-sized jackpot he just knew was coming that his elbow caught the ice case wrong and folded like a bad hand at the table. He heard the crack before he felt it, and even then his first thought wasn't pain, it was relief, because a cast means sympathy, and sympathy means someone else buying the sake and someone else carrying the crab legs he can no longer lift himself. He tried, for one shining half-second, to be the stoic warrior his old sensei would recognize, jaw tight, eyes forward, but then a vendor offered him free grilled eel out of pity and Azuma wept with joy right there in the slush. Broken bone, full belly, zero shame, he limped home calling it destiny, already dreaming of the next reckless swing that'll get him fed again.”
Worn as trophy or warning — nobody is quite sure which. The Chicken Bones fighters have a ceremony for everything and share it with no one.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
War color, formal cut. The Red Warrior Kimono fighters dressed for the battle they expected and arrived at the one they got.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Intentional declaration. The Mohawk Spike fighters made a choice that announces itself before they speak.
The weighted hook-blade on a rope. Distance and cutting in one weapon. The Heavy Kyoketsu fighters control range — nothing happens at a distance they didn't set.
