Diary
Drooling Azuma sat cross-legged before the shoji doors of what used to be his family's dojo, mouth watering for reasons even he couldn't name, mourning a discipline he'd long since aped away for snacks and vice. Somewhere between the third bowl of noodles and the fourth existential sigh about his fallen reputation, his sandals simply vanished, kicked off in a fit of dramatic reflection and swallowed by the clutter of his own gloriously undignified life. He patted the tatami like a man searching for his floor price, loud and greedy in his panic, certain the universe owed him better odds than this. Determined to reclaim the honor he once wore like armor, he vowed right there, barefoot and blinking at the paper doors, to train harder, eat less, meditate more, a vow that lasted exactly until he smelled yakitori three streets over and abandoned the whole noble plan mid-stride. Still, beneath the chaos and the crumbs, something old and disciplined stirred in him, whispering that reputation, like sandals, is just waiting to be found if he'd only sit still long enough to look.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Ancient discipline, modern retention. The Braided Samurai Ponytail fighters maintain something traditional precisely because the world keeps trying to make them let it go.
Made for documentation, used for combat. The Paintbrush fighters record and act simultaneously — every fight is also a portrait.
