Diary
Drooling Azuma set up his little ironing board right there among the cedar trees, steam hissing off his kimono like he was some kind of samurai-monk preparing for a ceremony nobody invited him to, and for one shining minute he felt disciplined again, present, almost holy. Then he turned his back for a single bite of dango, one measly bite, and when he spun around his coin pouch was gone, vanished into the trees like it had never wanted to know him in the first place. He roared loud enough to scatter birds for three villages, mourning yen he probably would've aped into some floor-sweeping bet anyway, and somewhere underneath the noise a small sad warrior-heart whispered that this was karma for choosing snacks over vigilance. Azuma, undeterred and gloriously unchanged, has now vowed total self-improvement: wake early, iron with focus, stop eating mid-guard duty, a vow he will absolutely break by lunchtime tomorrow. Still, he presses the kimono a little sharper each morning, chasing some old discipline that keeps slipping through his fingers same as that stolen coin.”
One tooth. The whole shark is implied. The Shark Tooth fighters don't need to explain what they've overcome — they wear the evidence.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The farmer's crown. The Rice Hat fighters carry tradition on their head without ceremony — it's just what you wear when you have work to do.
Patience as weapon. The Noose fighters don't rush — they set the conditions and wait for the opponent to walk into them.
