Lovey Haruto once folded silk for shoguns, each crease a small vow of order, but these days the only ritual left is ironing his own kimono in whatever bed isn't his, tonight his friend's, because his own apartment still smells like the failed floor he aped into last week. The iron hums, steam curls, and through it waddles a pig, uninvited, unbothered, radiant with the kind of confidence Lovey lost somewhere between the war and the weed. He does not shoo it away. He talks to it soft and slow, the way he talks to everyone, disarming the room until the pig leans into his palm and something in his chest tips sideways into love, then somewhere further south into want, which mortifies him more than any lost battle ever did. He keeps ironing anyway, wrinkles multiplying under his shaking hands, discipline slipping through his fingers like always, but even ruined, even blushing, he thanks the pig kindly for the company, because gentleness is the one blade he never lets go dull.”
