Up on Mount Fuji, Lovey Haruto cut through ronin the way he does everything else, with a soft word first and a blade second, like he was hoping the swords would just talk it out and go home. In the chaos his katana found a fat little rat scurrying between corpses, and something in him cracked, not from the killing of men but from that one small unintended casualty, a life he never meant to touch. He has since apologized to that rat more times than to any human he's ever wronged, lighting a stick of weed at the shrine like it's incense and mumbling about karma while his floor of respect among the other degens quietly gets rugged for being soft. Discipline once meant never missing his mark, and now it means trying, and failing weekly, to write his family a letter that starts with
