Diary
Under a moon so full it looked like a coin flipped by some indifferent god, Oleg lowered himself into the cold spring at Kurama, snakes coiling around his forearms like living tattoos, and he did not flinch, because Oleg does not flinch, not even when the other fighters snickered from the treeline with their sake and their vape pens. He had read, in a scroll he refuses to name, that the old samurai tested their stillness against venom, and Oleg has never once questioned a scroll in his life. The snakes, sensing no fear to feed on, grew bored and slithered off toward warmer rocks, and Oleg took this as proof he had achieved something ancient and unassailable. He emerged wiser, he insists, wiser in the way stone is wise, and he has attempted since to bring this same monkish discipline to the dojo's ledger of bar tabs, failing nightly, gravely, without ever once admitting the irony. Somewhere behind that stone face is a boy who still wants the old bushido purity, and every time he loses a coin flip on the same moon-coin sky, that boy exhales through Oleg's nose like a small, defeated ghost.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The red Oni rages where the blue Oni waits. The Red Oni Tattoo fighters run hot and they are at peace with this.
Of all the Olegs, the one who never got the memo any of it was supposed to be funny. He made war a vocation — grave, total, and frightening for exactly that reason.
Still functional. Functionally broken. The Broken Glasses fighters see a cracked version of reality and have found it more honest than the uncracked one.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
