Diary
Botan learned bushido the wrong way round, elbow to elbow with pickpockets, three-card sharks, and one guy who juggled knives just to see who flinched, and nobody ever saw Botan flinch. The old sensei taught fear as a compass; the crowded street taught Botan there was no compass left to lose, so he just kept walking through the chaos with a dead calm that made grown degens nervous. He still remembers the katana he pawned for a bag of weed and a bet he shouldn't have taken, and how he won both the fight and the shame in the same breath. Now he says he's opening a dojo for degens, teaching floor-humping apes and rugged gamblers to stand still when the world tries to eat them, though half his lessons end in sake and the other half in someone crying about a chart. He calls it discipline; everyone else calls it Tuesday, and Botan, fearless to the marrow, simply shrugs and says the unsayable truth: none of them are ready, least of all him.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The name is the lore. The Poop Pride Kimono fighters have transcended embarrassment so completely that they wear the proof. Undefeated.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Mastery without ceremony. The Kung Fu Master fighters stopped needing to prove the title long before anyone stopped asking for proof.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
