In the province they used to call him Kensei before the wars dried up, and now they call him The Kingpin, though the sheathed calm never left his shoulders. He does not sleep so much as pause, ledger open on one knee, counting blades and bags and every marker the lower degens have signed against tomorrow's floor. His warehouses in the old Sakai docks move weapons the way they once moved rice, quiet and precise, velvet voice over steel spine, never raising it because he never has to. Some nights he tells himself this is discipline reborn, empire instead of dojo, order instead of chaos, but the ledger tells him otherwise when he catches himself trading a katana for kush just to feel something ancient again. Still he sits upright at dawn like a man expecting a master's inspection, back straight, eyes tired, running the only temple left to him.
He runs the dojo the way he ran everything before it: completely, quietly, without ever seeming to raise his voice. A commander whose orders arrived softly and were obeyed instantly.
