Diary
Ikari's jaw had not unclenched since the last war ended, and it did not unclench the night BBQ Ben dragged him into his own smoke-choked quarters and set a plate of ribs in front of him like an offering to a wrathful god. "Anger is a coal you keep swallowing," Ikari used to snarl at recruits, quoting some dead sensei he half remembers, and yet there he sat, vein pulsing at his temple, mouth full of brisket, suddenly, infuriatingly at peace. Enlightenment, it turned out, tasted like hickory and cheap beer, and Ikari hated that it worked, hated it the way he hates everything, which is to say completely and with his whole honest chest. Now he trains at dawn trying to claw back the discipline the wars left him and the barbecue nearly finished off, screaming katas at the sunrise like the sun personally rugged his reputation, and every single morning he ends up back at Ben's fire pit by noon, furious at himself, furious at the ribs, furious that he keeps coming back for seconds. He tells himself this is the last time he lets a plate of meat outsmart a samurai, and the vein in his temple, ever honest, does not believe him for a second.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Memento mori made fashionable. The Skull Kimono fighters remember what's at stake and wear the reminder so they never forget.
'Ikari' means anger — and here it's not a description, it's the whole man. He doesn't perform rage; he simply is it, structured, purposeful, and permanent.
The world through affection. The Loveheart Shades fighters see everything as worth caring about — and have found this is more effective than the alternative.
Organization meets chaos. The Yakuza Hooligan fighters have discipline from one tradition and abandon from another, and they've combined them into something entirely their own.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
