Ikari once carried his honor like a second blade, sharper than the steel at his hip, until the night Raiku passed him a joint on the beach and the tide took the last of his discipline out with it. He remembers telling himself, back when he still believed in something, that anger is a wind that blows out the lamp of the mind, and he laughed then because he thought he was above it. Now the lamp is out and he walks the streets selling himself for coin, the vein in his neck still pulsing like a war drum with no war left to fight. He curses Raiku, curses the smoke, curses the sand that swallowed his name, but mostly he curses himself for knowing better and choosing worse anyway. Every dawn he swears this is the day he claws back his old code, and every dusk finds him furious, broke, and exactly where the tide left him.EOF
