Haru showed up to the bamboo forest with a grin already loaded, the kind he wears like armor plating over whatever's rusting underneath, and Raiku had the good stuff rolled before the birds even finished waking up. They were supposed to be sharpening resolve, meditating on the old katas, chasing that one shot at glory everybody kept whispering about, but instead they passed a joint back and forth under the green light filtering through the stalks and Haru declared, beaming, that this was basically training too. Discipline, he insisted between coughs, is just vibes with a sword attached, and honestly the way the wind moved through the bamboo felt like the universe co-signing his logic. He knew, somewhere in that iron place he never lets anyone see, that he'd fumbled the whole opportunity spectacularly, floor price of his ambition dropping by the minute, but he laughed it off loud enough to drown the thought out. Later he'd tell everyone it was the best rug of his life, still grinning, still cheerful, still quietly promising himself that tomorrow, for real this time, he'd be disciplined again.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
