Diary
Haru went to the shrine at dawn because a sensei once told him reflection sharpens the blade, and he figured a little quiet time couldn't hurt a guy who mostly floors himself before noon. He lit the incense, bowed twice, grinned at the koi like they owed him money, and tried real hard to feel something ancient and profound about his samurai days. Instead all he got was a knee that popped funny and a memory of getting rugged out of his last three ronin gigs, and before he knew it he'd kicked over the offering box yelling about how enlightenment charges too much gas for too little yield. He laughed it off immediately, of course, patched the box with a folded receipt and a wink at the shrine cat, because that's the Haru way, smile first, rage quietly composting underneath like weed left in a hot car. He walked home calling it a win anyway, ten out of ten shrine, would rage again, discipline still very much rugged, vibes somehow intact.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The blue Oni does not rage. The blue Oni waits. The Blue Oni Tattoo fighters are the calmest ones in the room — which makes them the most dangerous.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
After. The Messy fighters' hair tells you what happened — not what they planned, but what they went through.
Fermented projectile. The Beer Splash fighters found the most abundant thing in the Dojo and weaponized it.
