Diary
Haru still remembers the version of himself who sharpened ambition like a blade, the young samurai who meditated at dawn and swore off distraction like it was an enemy clan. Then the wars ended, the Degen Dojo opened its doors, and he wandered in swearing he'd only stay long enough to clear his mind for a weekend. That weekend became a decade of floor-checking his portfolio between bong rips, grinning through every red candle like it was a cherry blossom falling in slow motion. Every morning he tries again, rolling out a fresh tatami mat of discipline, promising himself just one hour of stillness before the group chat and the gummies win, as they always do. He tells everyone he's never been happier, flashing that same iron smile, though anyone who trains beside him long enough can see the quiet, aching truth: he has never once, in all his cheerful ruin, felt more miserable.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Left the order. Didn't stop fighting. The Dejen Apostate fighters broke from whatever school trained them and found that the training stayed anyway.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The warrior and the wanderer. Worn by those who are between destinations but never between fights.
Fermented projectile. The Beer Splash fighters found the most abundant thing in the Dojo and weaponized it.
