Diary
Haru had promised himself this would be the season he got disciplined again, dawn hikes up Mount Hotaka, clean lungs, clear mind, maybe even meditate at the summit like the old dojo days before the wars turned every sword into a shrug. Instead he found himself halfway up the ridge with a family-size tub of wasabi paste, aping the whole thing in one sitting because his sensei once said pain builds character, and honestly the burn felt like progress. No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
No fixed allegiance. The Mercenary fighters fight for whoever offers the right terms and have never lost a battle when those terms were met.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Precious material on the most important tool. The Golden Glasses fighters invested in how they see — and the investment shows.
Wild, electrified. The Zapachi fighters' hair moves independently and the fighter has accepted that this is appropriate.
Heavy, ceramic, purpose-built for one thing and used for another. The Giant Sake Bottle fighters are creative about their arsenal.
