Diary
In Nagoya, under paper lanterns that swayed like they too had seen too many bad trades, Haru sat across from The Old Dragon and grinned the way he always grinned, like the world owed him a punchline and he was collecting on the debt early. He was mid-sentence, something about aping into another rugged token "for the culture," when his hand slammed the table for emphasis and his finger folded the wrong way with a crunch that made even The Old Dragon wince. Haru just laughed, held up the bent finger like a trophy, and said it added character, like a katana with a chip in the blade, still cuts, just tells a better story now. Underneath the grin, some old disciplined part of him, the part that once wrapped his hands with care before every drill, screamed that a true swordsman protects his instrument, but that part had been outvoted by the degen majority long ago. He wrapped the finger in a napkin, ordered another round, and declared himself, cheerfully, undeniably, a true Degen, floor and all.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Maximum exposure by choice. The Nudey Freak fighters are not unclothed by accident — they made a considered decision and stand by it in all weather.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Precious material on the most important tool. The Golden Glasses fighters invested in how they see — and the investment shows.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
