Diary
Haru's katana snapped clean in half right there on the Nihonbashi crossing, the blade skittering into a puddle of spilled bubble tea while he was mid-sentence asking Masumi whether she thought he had a future worth chasing. He laughed so hard and so fast that three strangers actually laughed with him, because that is the trick, that is the whole armor: grin first, grieve never, let the crowd think a broken blade is just confetti for a joke. Underneath the noise he felt the old dojo hush creep up his spine, the discipline he used to swing with now rusted somewhere between a poker table and a half-smoked joint, and for one honest second his smile wobbled like a coin about to land tails. He asked Masumi for advice like he actually wanted an answer, then talked over her first three sentences with plans about aping into some new token that was definitely, this time, going to fix everything. She finally just handed him her own spare wooden practice sword, patted his shoulder, and told him to try discipline before he tried destiny, and Haru took it grinning, already forgetting the lesson before he'd even sheathed it.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
No fixed allegiance. The Mercenary fighters fight for whoever offers the right terms and have never lost a battle when those terms were met.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo wrote on it. The Degen Graffiti Rice Hat fighters carry the collection's mark on the highest point of their body.
War god's spear. Divine reach. The Bishamon Yari fighters have authorization from something older than the Dojo.
