Diary
Haru climbed Misty Mountain the way his old master taught him, one deliberate breath per step, determined to trim the cherry blossoms into something worthy of the dojo he used to call home. Halfway through the hedges, shears trembling with genuine focus, the master plan struck him like sunlight through fog: he would finally get disciplined, budget his sake money, meditate at dawn, become the samurai his younger self would recognize in a mirror. He grinned the whole walk down, told every villager he passed that today was the first day of the new Haru, iron underneath and blossoms in his topknot. By the time he reached the bottom he had traded his pruning shears for a rigged dice game and lost both the coin purse and the plan, though somehow he was still smiling wider than anyone who'd actually won. He will never be the same, he tells people cheerfully, because the old Haru at least pretended discipline was possible, and this Haru just waves at Misty Mountain from the bar and promises next season's blossoms will be different.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for something specific. The Cet Kimono fighters know what they're wearing and why — the rest is for others to figure out.
The man who decided grinning was braver than breaking. He held a line so long his smile became the squad's good-luck charm; now he beams through the wreckage of peacetime, a very tired samurai behind the widest smile in the Dojo.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
After. The Messy fighters' hair tells you what happened — not what they planned, but what they went through.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
