Diary
Drooling Azuma used to hunger for glory the way lesser men hunger for rice, and on the night the dojo roof became his battlefield, he aped in headfirst chasing a prize nobody could name, tiles cracking like busted candles under his sandals. He came down from that roof bald as a peeled egg, his topknot gone forever, rugged by his own greed for a fight that never even had real stakes attached. Loud about it ever since, he announced to the whole courtyard that seppuku was the only honorable exit, dragging out an ancestral blade with the solemn face of a man who has clearly never finished anything he started. Instead he got distracted mid-ceremony by a bag of chips and a dice game some rookie fighter was running by the well, and the blade ended up propped against a wall like forgotten homework. Somewhere under all that hunger and noise, the old discipline flickers, weak as a candle in wind, watching Azuma reach for seconds instead of the sword, again.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Turns toward light. The Silken Sunflower Kimono fighters move toward what sustains them without apology or explanation.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical. Focused. The Hair Bun fighters pulled back what was in their eyes so they could see the whole board.
War god's spear. Divine reach. The Bishamon Yari fighters have authorization from something older than the Dojo.
