Diary
Drooling Azuma once held a blade with the stillness of a monk, but the wars ended and the stillness curdled into raw, screaming hunger, an appetite with nowhere left to march. So when he found himself blackout drunk at his mother's house, sake sloshing through him like a rugged floor price, he decided the honorable thing to do was to ape into self-love right there in the genkan, loud and proud and utterly undone. His mother's scream, the neighbors' scandalized gossip, the shame that should have followed him like a shadow, none of it landed, because Azuma wears the memory like a championship belt, bragging about it between mouthfuls of ramen and hits of weed as if he'd conquered a castle instead of humiliating himself in slippers. He swears, between cackles, that next month he'll find discipline again, meditate, train, maybe even apologize to his mum, but the promise dissolves the second a cold beer appears, and the ache for the disciplined man he used to be gets buried under one more glorious, gloriously undignified binge.
Worn as trophy or warning — nobody is quite sure which. The Chicken Bones fighters have a ceremony for everything and share it with no one.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
It's been that kind of day. The Bloody Mess clothing doesn't mean the fighter lost — it means they were in it deep enough that cleanliness became irrelevant.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
