Diary
Drooling Azuma once cut down three ronin before breakfast; now he sits at the noodle house in Nihonbashi cutting down a fourth bowl of tonkotsu, broth on his chin like war paint from a war that stopped needing him. Somewhere between slurp six and slurp nine, staring at the waitress and thinking thoughts no honorable blade should think, he had a vision: be disciplined, be a monk, be the kind of man who orders water and means it. So he vowed it right there, chopsticks raised like a katana, swearing off lust and gluttony and every floor-price temptation in one gulp of self-righteous noodle steam. He has kept the vow for exactly forty minutes and has never in his life been more miserable, twitchy, starving, aped into his own hunger with nothing left to conquer but himself, and losing badly. Somewhere his old sensei is rolling in his grave, watching a former blade of Edo white-knuckle a napkin instead of a sword, greedy for anything, honorable at absolutely nothing.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Left the order. Didn't stop fighting. The Dejen Apostate fighters broke from whatever school trained them and found that the training stayed anyway.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The farmer's crown. The Rice Hat fighters carry tradition on their head without ceremony — it's just what you wear when you have work to do.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
