Diary
Once Drooling Azuma's blade answered only to duty, but these days it's his stomach and his mouth that lead every charge, and both were roaring the afternoon he sat beneath the sakura petals with Bob, tongue practically unrolling like a scroll at the smell of dango stands nearby. Bob, calm as a still pond, tried to talk sense, budgets, discipline, the old bushido restraint Azuma swears he still carries somewhere under the drool stains, and for one shining minute Azuma actually held his tongue, chin high, will iron. Then a breeze knocked a blossom onto a passing skewer of grilled mochi and the samurai in him died on the spot, replaced by a war cry of pure degen hunger as he aped three servings before Bob finished his sentence. Ashamed, glorious, sticky-fingered, Azuma has now vowed to write a book about self-mastery, tentatively titled something like
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Named for the legendary swordsman. The Flowing Battousai fighters carry the name of the fastest draw in the collection's lore — and the hair confirms they take this seriously.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
