Diary
Drooling Azuma rolled into Okonawa expecting the kind of fight that fills a man up, the kind old sword-monks wrote poems about, but sparring with Ikari left him staring at the surf feeling like he'd aped into a floor that never pumped. He'd trained his whole life to hunger for battle, and now here was battle, served hot, and it tasted like nothing, flat as day-old ramen. So he did what any tainted degenerate samurai does when the war inside him has no war outside to match it: he ate three bowls of pork buns, rugged his own diet plan by sundown, and swore between burps that tomorrow he'd meditate at dawn like the old masters. Tomorrow came, dawn came, Azuma did not, snoring through it in a haze of weed smoke and half-finished promises, the discipline slipping through his greedy fingers same as always. Somewhere Ikari probably still remembers the fight as forgettable; Azuma remembers it as the day he learned even glory can be a rug pull.
Heavy. Deliberate. The Gold Earring fighters wear their conviction in precious metal on the outside so everyone knows before they speak.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
No fixed allegiance. The Mercenary fighters fight for whoever offers the right terms and have never lost a battle when those terms were met.
'Azuma' — east, the rising sun. Once a warrior whose hunger for the fight rose every morning: first over the wall, last off the field. Peacetime left the hunger nowhere to go.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Heavy, ceramic, purpose-built for one thing and used for another. The Giant Sake Bottle fighters are creative about their arsenal.
