Fatty Bobsticks will tell you, unprompted and at volume, that he is nothing like Fat Bob, and then in the same breath brag about a wound Fat Bob never had the guts to earn: two nipples split open like cheap mochi because he mouthed off to a samurai at three in the morning outside a shuttered izakaya. He does not remember the insult exactly, something about the man's topknot looking like a dead ferret, but he remembers the speed of the counter, a blade that barely grazed him yet somehow found both nipples with surgical, almost personal cruelty. He spent the walk home clutching his chest and howling that this never happens to Fat Bob, conveniently forgetting Fat Bob never picked a fight with a man who could parry moonlight. Now he calls himself wiser, sits every morning trying to meditate on restraint the way real samurai did, lasts four minutes before bragging to a ghost about how much tougher his pain tolerance is than his predecessor's ever was. His nipples healed crooked, a permanent reminder that discipline is a floor he keeps trying to buy back into, and every time he almost gets there his own ego rugs him first.
