Masumi rose before the sun, as the old masters taught, and knelt by the river to empty his mind of desire, ambition, and the faint hum of his phone buzzing with a floor price he refused to check. He achieved something close to peace for four full minutes, which is longer than usual, and in that stillness a stranger achieved something close to a clean getaway with his wallet. He did not chase the thief. He watched the mist lift off the water and thought, with the flat clarity that has replaced hope in him, that a true samurai owns nothing worth stealing, and that he is simply further along that path than most. He walked home poorer, calmer, and quietly certain that enlightenment, like every other investment he has made, was going to cost him everything and teach him nothing new. He calls this wisdom now, mostly because the alternative word is grief.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
