Diary
Goro was always the youngest in every room, the one taught to sit still and let the storm pass over older heads first, so when the elders dragged him to the dojo roof and spat on him one by one, he simply knelt and counted their spit like it was tribute, waiting for the moment to end the way he waited for everything else in life. It never really ended. Somewhere between the third old man's insult and the eighth wad of phlegm, his honor quietly rugged itself off the roof and floor'd somewhere down in the koi pond, and Goro just watched it go the way he watches his portfolio these days, patient, silent, pretending the dip is temporary. Now he shuffles through town a broken man who still tries to meditate every morning, incense lit, spine straight, only to end up three bong rips deep by sunrise, whispering to no one that discipline is just patience he hasn't found yet. He waits still, out of habit more than hope, certain that if he sits quiet enough long enough, even shame will get bored and leave him alone.
Worn as trophy or warning — nobody is quite sure which. The Chicken Bones fighters have a ceremony for everything and share it with no one.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
'Goro' — fifth son, who learns early the world won't wait, so he'd better learn to wait for it. Patience was his whole art: the one who held position long after holding stopped making sense.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Focus made visible. The Karate Headband fighters bound their intention around their skull so it couldn't escape during the fight.
