Diary
Goro was the youngest of his dojo brothers once, and youngest learn early that patience is the only weapon nobody can pawn off you, so he waited, and waited, and waited some more beneath the endless red gates of Fushimi, watching for The Kingpin like a man staring at a candle waiting for it to confess something. But the waiting cracked that day, some borrowed sake and a belly full of spite got aped into his blood, and he went stomping through the torii shouting challenges at a man who wasn't even there yet, scattering pilgrims and foxes and his own good sense across the mountain path. The fight he wanted never came, only the quiet humiliation of a thousand gates watching a patient man forget himself for one loud, ugly afternoon. Now he sits again in that same red silence, jaw tight, hands folded, telling himself the floor of his composure hasn't been rugged for good, just tested, and that next time the wait will hold. He knows better now, he says, though the sake jar by his knee suggests the lesson is still very much in beta.'
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
'Goro' — fifth son, who learns early the world won't wait, so he'd better learn to wait for it. Patience was his whole art: the one who held position long after holding stopped making sense.
Authority through opacity. The Dark Spectacles fighters reveal nothing through their eyes and receive everything through them.
Broad shade, broad vision. The Wide Kasa Fisherman fighters cover more ground with their hat than most cover with their plans.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
