Goro was always the one who waited, the youngest brother who learned that silence outlasts every storm, and for years that patience made him the calmest blade in any dojo. Then came the night on the palace roof, moonlight slicking the tiles, when he sang low and unsteady to the courtesans below and they actually looked up, actually laughed and clapped instead of calling the guards. Something in him cracked open that night, some dam of stillness he'd built since childhood, and now he hums to himself in the ring before every fight like he's still waiting for applause that already came and went. His coach begs him to meditate before matches the old way, breath and silence, but Goro just leans against the ropes working out a new verse, convinced one day the crowd will sing back. He tells himself this is patience too, the long game of a man waiting for the world to notice he's got a voice, even as his sake-warm throat and busted rhythm suggest otherwise.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
'Goro' — fifth son, who learns early the world won't wait, so he'd better learn to wait for it. Patience was his whole art: the one who held position long after holding stopped making sense.
