Goro climbed to the palace roof the way he did most nights, not to brood but to watch, the youngest brother's oldest habit still humming in his bones. Up there the tiles were cold and the wind carried old memories, katas he once drilled at dawn now traded for slow bong rips and staring at candlestick charts that never moved the way patience promised they would. He felt his confidence slip off the eaves like loose shingles, ten years of discipline rugged by a decade of waiting rooms, waiting lines, and waiting for token unlocks that never came. Still he sat cross-legged, breathing slow, telling himself the old truth that the youngest always learns first, that whoever waits longest usually wins, even if lately all he'd out-waited was his own bar tab. Tomorrow, he decided, he would rebuild himself one still, watchful morning at a time, though tonight he mostly just watched the moon and let another hour pass him by.
