Diary
Goro was always the last one to speak, the youngest in every dojo line, the one who learned that stillness outlasts steel, so when the elders warned him not to climb Mount Hotaka with Haruto he simply nodded and went anyway, patient as a bag holder waiting for a rug to unrug itself. Halfway up the ridge, wind howling like a liquidation alert, Haruto slipped near the scree and Goro caught his wrist, one touch, and something ancient and cursed passed between them like a bad NFT trade nobody can undo. He felt the old discipline crack open right there on the mountain, thousands of meters above the floor he used to respect, and instead of mourning it he laughed, because tainted men don't need permission to breathe easy. Now he sits at the base camp fires with a joint he swears is his last one this month, watching the younger fighters spar, waiting them out the way he waits out everything, knowing full well his vow of moderation died somewhere near that scree slope. Truly free, he tells himself, though freedom looks a lot like doing nothing productive with excellent posture.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
'Goro' — fifth son, who learns early the world won't wait, so he'd better learn to wait for it. Patience was his whole art: the one who held position long after holding stopped making sense.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The warrior and the wanderer. Worn by those who are between destinations but never between fights.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
