Diary
Goro was raised the youngest of many blades, so he learned early that the world rewards the one who waits, watches, breathes slow while louder men swing first and lose. On sparring day he watched Botan too long, patient as a held breath, and when the opening finally came he took it clean and dropped his friend to the dojo floor before either of them understood what patience had cost. He was a cheerful man before that morning, quick with sake jokes and slower with grudges, but now he moves through the halls like a monk who forgot his own sutras, quiet in a way that isn't peace so much as penance. He still practices the old discipline, sitting still at dawn, counting breaths, promising himself no weed and no dice tonight, and by dusk he is aped into some backroom mahjong game anyway, chasing calm in all the wrong corners. Somewhere under the vice he is still that same watchful youngest brother, waiting out his own guilt the way he waits out everything else, certain that if he is patient enough, forgiveness will eventually walk through the door on its own.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Wore everything out. The Dirty Peasant Rags fighters have been in the Dojo so long that newness has become impossible — everything they own carries the evidence.
'Goro' — fifth son, who learns early the world won't wait, so he'd better learn to wait for it. Patience was his whole art: the one who held position long after holding stopped making sense.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
