Diary
Goro was the youngest of seven blades, and the youngest learns early that patience outlasts every sword swung too soon, so he watched, and waited, and would have worn the shogun's crest if a ragged clot of bandits hadn't chosen the sunset outside Himeji to test him. He won, technically, the way a man wins a fight he never fully leaves, and something in him stayed kneeling in that orange light long after the bandits scattered into the treeline. Now he sits at the edge of every dojo brawl the same way he once sat at the edge of council, quiet, watchful, rolling a joint with the same unhurried hands that used to wait out armies. He tells himself he is still playing the long game, still the patient one who outlasts the room, even as his floor price bleeds red and his stash dwindles and his meditation cushion holds nothing but empty chip bags. Somewhere behind his half-lidded eyes the old discipline still stands watch, mostly ignored, waiting, as always, for Goro to notice it's there.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
'Goro' — fifth son, who learns early the world won't wait, so he'd better learn to wait for it. Patience was his whole art: the one who held position long after holding stopped making sense.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
