Diary
Igor the Bear does not move quickly for anything, not for battle, not for last call, and certainly not for regret, so when the sake house incident with Tokuda finally caught up to him it arrived the way all things arrive to Igor, slow, heavy, and three days late. Once he held a stance for hours under falling snow without a shiver, disciplined as stone, and now he cannot even hold eye contact with the innkeeper who keeps refilling his cup with a knowing little smirk. The encounter itself he describes the way he describes weather he did not enjoy, flatly, without embellishment, uninspiring being the strongest word his gruff mouth will spend on it. He tried, briefly, to swear off sake houses altogether, a vow that lasted exactly as long as it took him to walk past one and feel that old immovable momentum drag him through the door anyway. Underneath the mass and the dry grunt of a man who has lost more esteem than he ever had rice, there is still some warm, aching part of Igor that remembers being disciplined, and it watches him order another round with the weary patience of something that has given up trying to stop him.
Decorative. Traditional. The Tassel fighters know that ornament and function are not opposites — presentation is part of performance.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for what it abandoned. The No Honor Kimono fighters gave up on the codes others follow and found that this freed them completely.
Built like a landslide — weight, physical and otherwise, the kind that can't be lifted, only rolled. In the wars you pointed him at a problem; now the stillness is the problem.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Dark nature made structural. The Black Oni Horns fighters grew into something specific and let it show at the top.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
