Diary
Before Fushimi, Igor The Bear was a loud, cocksure blade, the kind of ronin-slayer who talked more than he trained and still won anyway, torii gates blurring red behind him as bodies dropped. Something in that shrine's silence after the last ronin fell knocked the noise clean out of him, and the confidence never fully came back, replaced instead by a slow, grinding weight that takes three tries just to stand up off the floor. These days he tells himself every morning he'll fast, meditate, get back to the old discipline, then he aches, cracks a beer, and watches his floor price and his resolve rug at exactly the same pace. He moves like a landslide that already decided where it's going, gruff about it, dry about it, warm somewhere deep under all that stone if you wait long enough for him to get there. Hard to start, impossible to stop, and once he's finally rolling toward you, not even the ghosts of Fushimi bother getting in the way anymore.'
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Lord's garment worn into battle. The Daimyo Warrior Kimono fighters have authority they didn't ask for and intention they haven't announced.
Built like a landslide — weight, physical and otherwise, the kind that can't be lifted, only rolled. In the wars you pointed him at a problem; now the stillness is the problem.
Demon woman, half revealed. The Hannya Half Mask fighters show the monstrous half and keep the human half private.
The farmer's crown. The Rice Hat fighters carry tradition on their head without ceremony — it's just what you wear when you have work to do.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
