Diary
Igor The Bear does not fall asleep so much as settle, like a mountain deciding to sit down, and in his family's home he dreamed the old dream of glory, katana raised, banners snapping, before the floor rose up and introduced itself to his face. He woke with fewer teeth and no memory of the fall, only the dull throb where discipline used to live, and a small proud grin that made the gaps look intentional, like battle scars from a war only he attended. His grandfather kept that house standing through worse than gravity, and Igor tells himself the missing teeth are tribute, not tragedy, the same way he tells himself smoking that last bowl of weed before training counts as meditation. Every morning he vows to rebuild the discipline he rugged himself out of years ago, one slow stretch, one sober breath, and every morning the couch's floor wins the negotiation before lunch. Still he walks around proud, jaw crooked, chest out, moving like a debt collector who forgot what he came to collect, immovable, unbothered, dreaming again the moment he sits still long enough.
One tooth. The whole shark is implied. The Shark Tooth fighters don't need to explain what they've overcome — they wear the evidence.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
Built like a landslide — weight, physical and otherwise, the kind that can't be lifted, only rolled. In the wars you pointed him at a problem; now the stillness is the problem.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The warrior and the wanderer. Worn by those who are between destinations but never between fights.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
