Diary
Igor The Bear used to move like a mountain deciding whether to become a landslide, disciplined, deliberate, a blade sheathed until the exact right breath, and now he mostly moves toward the fish cake stand at the Fight Pits like it owes him yen. He ate six of them before the third round even started, chewing with the grim focus he once reserved for kata, and somewhere between bite four and bite five his stomach declared its own civil war. The healers called it a disease, Igor called it a liberation, the kind of freedom no dojo ever taught him, where the body simply stops asking permission to do whatever it wants. He tried, briefly, nobly, to fast for a week afterward, to eat rice and drink only water like the old masters, but the fish cake stand is right there, floor price steady, and discipline is a rope Igor keeps buying and immediately dropping. Now he just lies in the sun outside the Pits, half sick, fully unbothered, a boulder that finally admits it was never rolling uphill anyway.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
Built like a landslide — weight, physical and otherwise, the kind that can't be lifted, only rolled. In the wars you pointed him at a problem; now the stillness is the problem.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Mastery without ceremony. The Kung Fu Master fighters stopped needing to prove the title long before anyone stopped asking for proof.
Not defensive. Offensive. The Floral Parasol fighters weaponized elegance — opponents hesitate before striking something that looks like it shouldn't be there.
