Diary
Igor The Bear does not rush toward enlightenment, he settles onto it like a boulder finding its groove in a riverbed, and so it took him three decades of samurai discipline and one crooked joint with Oleg in the dojo latrines to find his true calling. The smoke hung low and patient in that narrow stone room, much like Igor himself, and somewhere between the second cough and the third silence he understood, slow as continental drift, that this was it, this was the path. He tried afterward to fold the moment back into old discipline, to meditate on it properly, kneeling at dawn the way his sword masters once demanded, but his knees now argue with him and his mind wanders off toward snacks before the incense even finishes burning. Oleg says he has never seen a man look so smug while doing absolutely nothing, sitting there immovable, a mountain wearing a grin it earned by accident. Igor does not disagree, he simply nods, once, the way boulders nod, pleased with himself in a manner that will apparently last for weeks.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Excess made armor. The Glutton Fight fighters wear their hunger on the outside — not for food, but for everything the Dojo offers.
Built like a landslide — weight, physical and otherwise, the kind that can't be lifted, only rolled. In the wars you pointed him at a problem; now the stillness is the problem.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Practical and armed. The Hair Bun With Chopsticks fighters put utensils in their hair and call it hair care — the dual function is not accidental.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
