Diary
Igor The Bear does not move quickly toward anything, not glory, not the sake jug, and certainly not virtue, so when honor finally arrived it came the way everything arrives for him, ponderous and three days late. It happened after he rode as a woman on horseback in some tavern game he barely remembers agreeing to, the saddle groaning under a mass no horse in this life or the last one deserved to carry. Somewhere between the reins and the laughter of men who bet against him staying upright, a strange resolve settled into his chest like snow on a mountain that never melts, the resolve to be honorable again, disciplined, samurai-straight. He tried it for exactly one uninspiring afternoon, found honor slower even than himself and twice as boring, and rolled back into the dice game before sundown with the weed still lit between his teeth. Igor does not chase enlightenment twice in one lifetime, but should it ever wander close enough, slow as he is, it will not escape his grip.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Traditional footwear made into a statement. The Strap On Geta fighters move in a way that makes noise — deliberate, rhythmic, impossible to miss.
Built like a landslide — weight, physical and otherwise, the kind that can't be lifted, only rolled. In the wars you pointed him at a problem; now the stillness is the problem.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Aged. Sharp. The Short Spiky Grey fighters have been here long enough for color to leave — and found that what remained is more pointed than before.
