Lovey Haruto built his whole second life on the idea that a gentle word could cut deeper than any blade ever had, and for months it worked, even on men who deserved worse than gentleness. Then came the afternoon among the trees with Oleg, the two of them passing weed back and forth like old monks sharing incense, and something small, some careless joke about his dead sensei's stance, snapped the calm right out of him. He heard his own voice go sharp and ugly, watched Oleg flinch at a tone that used to belong to soldiers, not to him, and in that instant every ounce of discipline he'd been quietly rebuilding felt like ash drifting between the branches. He apologized before the smoke even cleared, hands trembling with the shame of it, because losing his temper cost him more than any fight ever could. Now he sits with the guilt like a splinter under warm skin, gentler than ever with everyone else, hardest of all on the one person he can never quite forgive.
