Diary
In the Dojo gardens, where old masters once meditated on the sound of falling leaves, Lovey Haruto sat cross-legged and meditated instead on the memory of a girl from three towns over, a smile so soft it undid centuries of bushido in a single afternoon. He was practicing his grip strengthening drills, the ones meant to sharpen a blade hand into something disciplined and true, when his mind wandered somewhere far less noble and his fingers simply forgot their purpose. The snap echoed louder than any training bell, and Haruto just smiled through the pain like a man who had traded stoicism for tenderness and never once regretted the exchange. Word spread fast that a fighter had broken his own finger swooning in the gardens, and rather than mockery, the Dojo gave him something rarer, a nod of respect, because everyone there understood aching for something soft in a life built on hardness. He wrapped the finger himself, gentle as a promise, proof that even his failures came wrapped in warmth, and that discipline, however lost, still bowed a little whenever kindness walked into the room.
Sober, unlike the drunk variant. The Lizard fighters have a companion with excellent judgment who never asks for anything and always seems to know when to leave.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
'Haruto' — warm person. He fights with something that looks like kindness, until you realize kindness done right is the hardest discipline of all, and he never stops choosing it.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Practical and armed. The Hair Bun With Chopsticks fighters put utensils in their hair and call it hair care — the dual function is not accidental.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
