Masumi Steel used to guard a border shrine in Kii with a spine straight enough to embarrass a bamboo pole, but that man is long floored, honestly rugged by time itself, and now he's out here on the beach mid-emergency crouch when his own elbow decides to unionize against him and snap. He tried to laugh it off as a battle wound from some invisible ronin, but the seagulls saw everything and they are not sworn to secrecy. Every morning he swears this is the day he rebuilds the old discipline, wakes at dawn, meditates, drinks water like a monk instead of sake like a man who lost a bet with his own liver, and every morning he's face down in the sand by nine having ignored all three. Elbow in a sling, dignity somewhere out past the tide, he still grins that reckless grin and tells anyone who'll listen that the floor's just the market finding his true bottom before the next pump. Better days are coming, he insists, mostly because they cannot possibly be worse, and he'll take that bullish setup over discipline any day.
Decorative. Traditional. The Tassel fighters know that ornament and function are not opposites — presentation is part of performance.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The blue Oni does not rage. The blue Oni waits. The Blue Oni Tattoo fighters are the calmest ones in the room — which makes them the most dangerous.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
