Diary
Masumi Steel used to swear the only thing he'd ever kneel for was a proper tea ceremony, but that vow got aped and rugged the night he sat across from Bob at the Hidden Teahouse, half a joint deep, and locked eyes with the establishment's resident pig like it owed him yield. Bob was mid-sentence about katana maintenance or some samurai nonsense nobody asked for, and Masumi just floated away, grinning, whispering sweet nothings to a hog that had zero interest in his discipline arc. He tried, gods know he tried, to meditate that infatuation off like a true reformed blade, sitting seiza on his porch at dawn, incense lit, only to end up scrolling pig memes and calling it spiritual research. Now he lives out past the last torii gate, a hermit with a straw mat, a dwindling stash, and a heart that still floors for that one snorting soulmate, insisting to anyone who wanders by that this is basically Zen if you squint. Bob still hasn't finished his sentence, and honestly, neither has Masumi's road back to being a real warrior.
A paper earring from the Dojo itself. Fragile. Replaceable. The fighters who wear them understand that what looks disposable can last forever.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
After the rice was used. The Rice Sack Rags fighters wear what remains after everything useful has been extracted — and find it sufficient.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
The disguise is the identity. The Degen Superhero glasses fighters have a secret — or maybe the secret is that there's no secret and they've always been exactly this.
Focus made visible. The Karate Headband fighters bound their intention around their skull so it couldn't escape during the fight.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
