Diary
Oleg mounted his horse the way his old master once mounted a battle line, spine straight, jaw set, eyes fixed on some invisible horizon of honor, and it was this exact posture he maintained while sharing a bottle with The English Pilot at a full trot. He did not laugh at the Pilot's jokes because Oleg does not recognize jokes, only orders and omens, and he treated each swig of cheap liquor like a sacrament sworn before ancestors who would not have approved. By the third mile and the empty bottle he declared himself a tainted man, solemnly, the way one might announce a death or a debt, and something in his chest that used to ache for discipline finally exhaled and called it victory instead. He rides now with the grim satisfaction of a man who has fallen and mistaken the impact for an achievement, still trying, in his own iron way, to be disciplined about his degeneracy. Somewhere his old sensei is either weeping or applauding, and Oleg, ever serious, assumes it is the second one.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Ritual clothing for someone who crossed between worlds. The Bird Shaman fighters dress for the journey they're already on, not the destination.
Of all the Olegs, the one who never got the memo any of it was supposed to be funny. He made war a vocation — grave, total, and frightening for exactly that reason.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
